- THE HOUSE WITHIN
About Pauline Pearson
The person behind The House Within
Pauline Pearson is a mental health social worker and psychotherapist in private practice in Melbourne, Australia. She has worked across mental health, hospitals, a university, and private practice for thirty years.
Throughout that time, Pauline has developed a particular interest in finding ways to help people understand their emotional lives more simply — not through clinical language, but through everyday words, universal images, and techniques they can more easily put into practice.
Her work is a collaboration with the many clients she has worked with over these years.
Pauline has a skill for distilling complex theory into something accessible. The House Within draws on her science degree, an interest in neuroscience, training in and experience of psychoanalysis, an appreciation of Dante’s Divine Comedy, and — most importantly — thirty years of listening to the people she has worked with in counselling and therapy.
Her grandparents were migrants to Melbourne from the Aeolian Islands off the coast of Sicily. Pauline’s Italian heritage has strongly influenced her personal and professional life. She has studied Dante’s Divine Comedy at the Dante Alighieri centre in Carlton, Melbourne, Australia.

Core Claim
The only thing we can truly control in life is our own state of mind. Taking responsibility for our own state of mind — understanding which floor we are on — is where emotional control begins. You can feel better, cope better and build more meaningful relationships if you find your way to your Ground floor.
